Julia’s number one goal as a voice teacher is to help students share stories through singing while building lifelong vocal health. She values joy and playfulness in lessons, recognizing that singers can often be highly self-critical. By approaching each session with positivity, she creates an environment that fosters growth and confidence.
Julia holds a Master’s degree from New York University Steinhardt and a Bachelor’s from the New England Conservatory, with training in classical, musical theatre, and pop/folk styles. Julia Cohen Voice Studio is a global community of artists of all ages and goals, with students on Broadway, National Tours, TV shows, and some prepping for school shows/college auditions. She also has a dedicated group of students who are teachers or who work in corporate, and are working on public speaking and perfecting THE karaoke song!
She teaches at NYC's American Academy of Dramatic Arts - guiding college students in musical theatre technique and song interpretation, and at NYU, where she worked as an Adjunct Voice Faculty Member, leading more than 50 students across a variety of vocal styles, including legit theater, opera, contemporary theater, and popular music.
As a vocal teacher, Julia helps students discover their authentic sound and sing with ease. She uses an acting-based approach that emphasizes full-body connection through breath support, posture, and natural vocal inflection. She believes singing should feel as natural as speaking and encourages cross-training to develop versatility across genres. Julia is committed to creating a holistic, inclusive environment where students can grow into the artists they aspire to be.

"No matter what your goals are, you will make progress with Julia as your coach and partner."
"I recently had an audition where I sang "Something's Coming" from West Side Story, and I felt fantastic! The director, who has seen me perform before, was amazed and mentioned that I had significantly improved since the last time he saw me sing. It felt incredible to hear that. Of course, I made sure to mention that I had a fantastic set of teachers in New York! Thank you again. It was great to put my skills to work and receive such positive feedback. "
"Julia is a gifted educator who knows how to meet you exactly where you are and unlock your potential as an artist. Whether you have been singing for years or are just starting, she tailors her lessons exactly to your needs. She is kind, patient and highly skilled at what she does, and I cannot recommend her highly enough."
"After a week of reflection I wanted to reach out and thank you for all of your help and dedication to our vocal training and classwork during the 2 weeks we spent together. Coming to AADA was my first step into testing the waters of the world of performing professionally and my expectations were truly exceeded. Your kindness and patience with our class all while pushing us to dig deeper and further test and discover our voices was truly appreciated. My biggest hope for myself is that I continue to learn and grow as a performer as it is truly what gives me a sense of purpose in this world."
