Find Your Spark (again)

It’s kind of crazy how you can be practicing and nothing seems to hit but all of a sudden… So today I am prepping for a voice lesson, YES my own voice lesson. I might teach voice 20 hours a week but I also have to keep up with my own voice. So I am trying to find new songs that spark me, are impressive, and show range for my reel. I am cycling through and researching (thank you ChatGpt for some suggestions), but none seem to be working. I even try to go all singer songwriter and sit down at the keys and try a stripped down version of “Please Please Please”. I decided let’s keep that song for Sabrina actually. I feel stuck, but I have to find some rep for this lesson. All of a sudden I remember a song I did when I was 11 years old with my first vocal coach John Kroner, “Disneyland” from Smile. I find the sheet music online, I can only find a handwritten free version which feels even more surreal. I begin the song and within the first line I am holding back tears. This is it - this is why I do this. Sometimes you need the tantrum to find the spark again.
